i have a maltese and she is 3 years old and weighs about 12 or 13 pounds.  i had her spayed when she was six months old and she has gained so much weight.  her parents were small, mother was 5 pounds and dad was 7 pounds.  my dog does not have any health problems.  is this very unusual for the size of my dog. we don't feed her much table food, so she mostly eats her dogfood.
