I think it's the general concensus among responsible Maltese breeders that Maltese only be bred to other pure-bred Maltese. We who love the breed wish to conserve it's standard of both appearance and personality. Of course, it's your dog and you have the final decision, but unless I was a professional who shows their dogs and knows which characteristics to perpetuate, I wouldn't attempt to breed.
