I got a groomer to cut a potty trail that way nothing gets in the hair.  It is a lot easier to deal with once a month than everyday.

: Why not try a soft muzzle?  I see them used at the groomers and the vets.  There's nothing wrong with them.  I would also give your dog a treat afterwards.  This way he will start relating the experience with something pleasant.  Good luck
