In this issue: ========= 1. Change of e-Mail Addresses ~ 2. Maltese Characters ~ 3. Maltese FAQ: Minimum Bathing Age ~ 4. Maltese Chat Room Name Change ~ ========= 1. Change of e-Mail Addresses NOTICE--we are changing our e-mail addresses. In an effort to shake off some of the SPAM, a.k.a. UCE or Unsolicited Commercial E-mail that we have been inundated with recently, we are changing our e-mail addresses. Please see our new addresses below, which are active effective immediately. All of the addresses end with "@kellyco.com" and the e-mail name part is placed before the "@" symbol, e.g.: emailname@kellyco.com Person or Entity | e-Mail Name ---------------------------------------- Dave Kelly | dave.kelly Donna Kelly | donna.kelly Kellys Maltese | kellys.maltese Kelly Co Postmaster | postmasters ---------------------------------------- Our old e-mail addresses will remain active for a short while longer (just in case), but please begin using the new addresses in any future correspondence. Thank you!• ========= 2. Maltese Characters The title of this short article is actually a kind-hearted play on words. What we really want to talk about are Maltese characteristics or traits. One version of Webster's Dictionary defined the word characteristic as: "a. serving to mark the character of; peculiar; distinctive; n. that which distinguishes a person or thing from another;[...]." Well, we all know that Maltese are not "things," which means we speak of them as persons in this context. :o) One characteristic that we have consistently observed in Maltese--and believe me, we have observed quite a few Maltese by now--is an instinctive urge to burrow. Burrow, not (necessarily) in the ground, but in lots of other things: under the bed covers or couch covers, in a fresh pile of clean laundry, in their dog bedding, in the grass or bushes, or in just about anything that they can pretend to dig and burrow in or on. They seem to play at it and love the feeling of it. Sometimes they will just brush their head and side along on the floor, or grass, or along the furniture, pretending to bury their head as they scoot along. This instinctive burrowing trait is similar to others which they exhibit, namely their unique nesting and food burying habits. But we'll save those characteristics for another article.• ========= 3. Maltese FAQ: Minimum Bathing Age The following Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) and answer, and many others also, are available on our website at: http://www.kellyco.com/maltese/faq.shtml Q: How old does a Maltese puppy have to be before they can have their first bath? A: Maltese puppies should not receive a full bath until at least six weeks of age. Even then, you must be very careful not to get water in the nose (and hence the lungs) or in the ears. Also, the water must be nice and warm and they must be completely dried afterwards using a warm air blow dryer. Be careful not to let them get chilled in the process. Of course, some spot bathing of the face and the rear end may be necessary prior to that age; particularly, if the rear end passage gets blocked with feces stuck to the hair, it must be washed away to prevent serious health problems. The face can be washed without running water over it by wiping it with a saturated cloth. Briefly running warm water over the rear end to wash away feces is safe. In both cases, you must ensure that the puppy does not get chilled, and they must be completely dried immediately afterward with a warm air blow dryer.• ========= 4. Maltese Chat Room Name Change This change will only affect you if you were accessing the chat room using an IRC client program, such as Microsoft Chat or mIRC, etc., and thus you will have to change the program settings to connect to the new room. If you access the chat room through the website, the new name will automatically be used and you don't have to do anything about it. NOTICE--the "Maltese Chat Room" Channel (or Room) Name has been changed to: #KellysMaltese (Prior to the recent website update, it contained an apostrophe character, i.e. #Kelly'sMaltese.) Also, please take note that the chat server has now been configured to scan connections for "unsecured proxies" (e.g. unauthenticated connections through proxy servers such as Wingate) and will reject such connections. People who used to connect through unsecured proxies will have to find another method of connection to use the chat room. This precautionary measure has been implemented by the webmasters running the chat server and is beyond our control.• ========= Until next issue...give your Maltese a hug for us, and we'll give ours a hug for you.
